Bullying in the workplace is prohibited in the Netherlands. Employers must ensure that everyone has a safe and respectful workplace. What is bullying in the workplace? Bullying in the workplace can take many forms. It can involve mocking or excluding someone, swearing at them, gossiping about them or constantly giving them unpleasant tasks to do. If you experience bullying in the workplace, you might become stressed or sick or no longer be able to do your work properly. What must your employer do? Your employer must ensure that the bullying stops and does not happen again. Your boss must have a plan to protect you and your colleagues. That plan must include where you can get help if you are bullied at work, for example.

Sometimes people experience unethical behaviour in the workplace, such as abusive language, harassment or bullying. In the Netherlands, you can get help to deal with this. Unethical behaviour You might experience unethical behaviour at your work. For example, you might be called names, bullied or pressured into doing work you do not want to do. You might even be touched in a way you do not like. Unethical behaviour like this makes you feel unsafe at work. What help is available if you are experiencing unethical behaviour? If you are experiencing unethical behaviour and you do not feel safe at your work, discuss this with your boss or report the problem to the confidential adviser . You can also ask your union for help or report the situation to the Netherlands Labour Authority .

Arbeidsomstandighedenbesluit, Artikel 2.15 Maatregelen ter voorkoming of beperking van psychosociale arbeidsbelasting
1. Indien werknemers worden of kunnen worden blootgesteld aan psychosociale arbeidsbelasting worden in het kader van de risico-inventarisatie en -evaluatie, bedoeld in artikel 5 van de wet, de risico’s ten aanzien van psychosociale arbeidsbelasting beoordeeld en worden in het plan van aanpak, bedoeld in artikel 5 van de wet, met inachtneming van de stand van de wetenschap maatregelen vastgesteld en uitgevoerd om psychosociale arbeidsbelasting te voorkomen of indien dat niet mogelijk is te beperken.
