Housing through your employer
Official explanation by the Dutch government in English
Work in NL, Housing through your employer
In some cases your employer arranges your housing. This page explains what your rights and duties are in that situation.
Renting housing through your employer
Your employer is the employment agency or the company where you work. Your employer can arrange housing for you. You must always be given a separate tenancy agreement for your home. This tenancy agreement must not form part of your contract of employment . Make clear agreements about the rent, how much you pay and what will happen when you stop working.
Paying rent through your wages
Your employer may deduct the rent from your wages . This is only allowed if you give your written consent and your home has a special certificate . In that case, you will not pay rent separately. The rent must not be more than 25% of the minimum wage .

source Work in NL, Certification
Certification means that your home has been approved with a certificate so you be certain it is safe and in good order.
What is certification for housing?
Certification means that a house or other housing has been inspected and meets certain rules. For EU migrants, certification often involves certificates such as SNF or AKF . These certificates ensure that the house is safe, clean and properly habitable. This way, you can be sure you are staying in decent accommodation. Only housing that has been given this kind of certification can be offered in exchange for a deduction from your wages.
Rent check by the Huurcommissie
If you are paying too much rent or have any doubts, go to the website of the Huurcommissie , where you can see what the maximum rent is. You can only contact the Huurcommissie if you have a tenancy agreement .
